10 Tips to Make Your Business Website User Friendly

user-friendly-business-websiteYour business website is your online store front, glorified business card, and some even say "the window to your business's soul." Its image and functionality determines whether visitors stick around or click away and go elsewhere. I've seen too many people more concerned with how their website looks and don’t take into account their audience and usability. Certainly, your site has to serve the purpose of conveying relevant information to its audience. However, if its cluttered, unusable, slow, or otherwise, you can kiss visitors goodbye. So here are 10 tips to help make your business website user friendly to keep visitors coming back for more! 1. Avoid T.M.I.-itis  (Too Much Information) I know first hand how tempting it is to “fill out” your website with a lot of "cool" things. However, filling your website with unnecessary content just makes it look weighty and only gives ...

Do You Still Feel Intimidated by Technology?

intimidated-by-technologyI often hear clients, friends, and family say: "I can't do anything with computers." "I don't know anything about computers." "All I need is a phone that dials." "I'm not tech savvy." "I wish I could learn more about technology but it seems so hard." However, don't underestimate yourselves. You know more, and are capable of learning more, than you know. My mom used to always ask me to store numbers in her cell phone or send an email on her behalf. But once I showed her how to do both herself, she was surprised at how easy it was and actually feels very proud of herself that she "gets it" - her words : - ) Embrace technology; it's not evil! :-) So to help you do so, here are two resources you'd find very helpful.

blogging-on-the-goHave you ever had some great blog post ideas when you were away from your computer? Ever wondered how you could manage and maintain your Wordpress blog on the go, including moderating your comments? Well, question no further! I've seen people blogging on their phones a lot lately and with faster, bigger screens and keyboards, it's getting a whole lot easier to blog from your phone and, in a lot of cases, is a lifesaver. Gone are the days where you need to wait to get to your computer to blog. If you have a mobile phone or other device with an Internet connection, you can post blog entries while you're on the road. If you have a WordPress blog and an Android/Blackberry/Nokia/iOS platform based phone, then you are in luck. Select your phone's platform from the options below, and download Wordpress to your ...

Poll: How Many WordPress Plugins Do You Use?

Okay ya'll, it's poll time! I recently realized I now have 23 active plugins and considering more (like the top commenter's widget)! I asked myself, "Kesha girl, how many is too many???" Yes, I have conversations like this with myself...LOL : - ) So I thought I'd ask others how many plugins are installed on their blogs. Of course there is no correct answer as this is not a test, but it will be interesting to see if there is a particular number of plugins that most people use (if you have multiple blogs, just provide an average number). So go count your plugins and cast your vote! Note: It just seems easier (and faster) to install a plugin than to hard code/adjust functionality to the theme. As of today, 1/21/2011, here are the plugins currently installed on this blog: xd-active-wordpress-plugins ...
